LetinAR's AR Glasses Technology - Analysis from Patent Perspective(part 2)

LetinAR Company has developed AR glasses, which are essential for the realization of augmented reality, and holds a number of patents. Following the last time, let's make it easy to understand what kind of AR glasses optical system technology LetinAR has secured. The description of the company called LetinAR and the preceding patents were summarized in the previous post, so if you are curious, I recommend that you read the article in the link below first. Go to link: LetinAR's AR Glasses Technology Part 1 A brief description of retinal's pin mirror technology First of all, in order to understand the technology below, I will explain the pinMR(pin sized mirror) technology, which is the core technology of LetinAR's AR glasses optics. The pinMR technology is simply a very small size of less than 2 mm mirrors inserted inside the lens as shown in the picture below. These tiny mirrors allow you to clearly see virtual objects that are reflected from the mirror to your pupil by ...

Understanding Maxst's Metaverse(Augmented Reality) Patent Easily

Maxst is a company that provides AR development platforms in Korea. I will briefly explain Maxst's patented technology registered in January 2022 to implement the metaverse in terms that anyone can understand.

Metaverse we will inevitably face

Metaverse refers to a three-dimensional virtual world where social, economic, and cultural activities take place. Older people may not understand why young people are passionate about Metaverses like ZEPETO and Roblox. There seems to be a lot of people who think of it as just a character decoration game. So did I. However, I started studying the Metaverse because I thought it would be difficult to adapt to the world later if I turned off my interest in Metaverse.

A Metaverse world that Maxst intends to implement is not a PC or mobile phone to control a character in the virtual world, but allows users to directly enter the metaverse world, move, and experience directly. Global giants such as Facebook and Google are also making huge investments and developments to build Metaverse. Metaverse is the world we inevitably have to face.

About Maxst

Maxst is a KOSDAQ-listed company established in October 2010. It is providing industrial augmented reality solutions by applying it to various manufacturing sites, and is investing heavily in AR technology development for Metaverse implementation.
Maxst was recently selected as one of the top 5 companies in brand reputation in April 2022 among software (SW) listed companies analyzed by Korea Corporate Reputation Research Institute. Recently, Maxst is building its own Metaverse world called Tlön. The name Tlön is said to derive from a fictional world built by the scientists, engineers, and scholars who founded the Secret Society in Borges's novels.
the Maxst's reality-based metaverse

MAXST's self-developed Metaverse Tlön applies 3D Reconstruction technology, captures the real world with a 360-degree camera, secures an image, and uses it to create a map of the same 3D space as the real world. The technology to create is being applied. Users can interact with maps created by 3D spatial reconstruction.

Problems of the prior art

To create augmented reality content in a three-dimensional space, it is necessary for the creator to directly place a virtual content in a certain location. The method of manual placement by creators delays a production time of augmented reality content, and if an object implemented in augmented reality is placed overlapping a wall or building by mistake of the creator, AR glass users may feel a sense of alienation.

Effect of this patent

The application of this patent's algorithm prevents creators from placing augmented reality-implemented objects within three-dimensional space.

Brief description of this patent

This patent applies to a user wearing AR glasses by observing a 3D space from multiple angles rather than just observing the 3D space from only one angle when a manufacturer places an virtual object to be implemented in augmented reality in the 3D space. Therefore, this patent provides an algorithm that allows a user wearing AR glasses to position a virtual object like a real object without overlapping it with an object such as a wall, as shown in the figure below, no matter what angle the user views the virtual object.

As above, we briefly learned about Maxst's patented technology related to Metaverse. Next, we will study about company called 'LetinAR' that participated in Maxst's optical and display module development. LetinAR, although the company's history is not long, has pin-mirror (PinMR) technology that implements AR glasses in an ultra-lightweight manner to realize augmented reality, and various patents have been registered to protect this technology. Next post would be an analysis of LetinAR's patented technologies.
